Legalized Cachaça!

On February 25th, the U.S. Alcohol Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) finally “legalized cachaça,” as they published the final rule that will recognize Brazil’s national spirit as an official spirit and distinctive product of Brazil.  This is the result of many years of lobbying and pressure from the Brazilian Government and cachaça sector, and most importantly, through your support of our “Legalize Cachaça” Movement.

The final rule will go in effect on April 11th, 2013.  Kicked off at Tales of the Cocktail in July 2009, the “Legalize Cachaça” movement collected over 300,000 signatures of the Cachaça Declaration of Independence. Since then, we conducted more than 500 rallies nationwide, educating consumers about cachaça and the “Legalize Cachaça” cause.  And most importantly, we enjoyed some fine Leblon Caipirinhas and cocktails in the process.  With the recognition of cachaça by the U.S. government, our “Legalize Cachaça” movement comes to a close, and we thank each and every one of you for your support!  The good news is that now that cachaça is recognized and respected, we can start our next chapter: drinking cachaça, and learning more about this great spirit!  Most of you know that cachaça can only be made from fermented cane juice, and can only come from Brazil.  However, what many people do not know is the difference between an industrial cachaça and an alambique cachaça.  And the distinction is significant.  To learn more, check out the following video:

Model Beach Volleyball Tournament

The CaipiMobile and Leblonettes were out in full force this past weekend in support of the Ludos Athletics Model Beach Volleball Tournament in South Beach. The tournament–which pits modeling agency against modeling agency, men and women–is in its third installment, with this year’s lineup including real-life women’s pro team April Ross & Jennifer Kessy Champions and 2012 Sports Illustrated model Nina Agdal. Refreshing fresh fruit Caipirinahs served out of the CaipiMobile in the VIP tent were a great way to cool off as the models took a break between matches.

Caipirinha Party

One of our biggest fans in Houston shared with us a great way to spread the word about Legalizing Cachaça.  He threw an at home Caipirinha Party.  Give it up for Roy Foreman. Thanks for your support!

We the People, in order to form a more perfect bar, seek to establish Cachaça as 'Cachaça,' Brazil's Noblve Spirit. We formally and necessarily declare that Cachaça is independent of, and therefore not, 'Brazilian Rum.' We make this declaration with no prejudice or malice towards Rum, nor to any other of our brethren spirits, such as Vodka, Tequila, or Gin.

To prove the above, let facts be submitted to a candid world: We recognize that Cachaça is made only from fresh-pressed cane juice, not molasses, and can only come from Brazil. We declare that Cachaça is the key ingredient to the Caipirinha, Brazil's National Cocktail. We also recognize that Cachaça mixes well with just about anything - fruit juices, sodas, and tonics - and brings a wonderful Brazilian touch to any classic cocktail.

We therefore hold these truths to be self-evident; that Cachaça is Brazil's Noble Spirit, endowed by its creator with certain unalienable characteristics, that among these are a fruity nose, fresh taste, and a long, clean finish. And in support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the confidence of our combined passion and expertise, we mutually pledge our understanding, our professionalism and our sacred honor.
