The Brazilian government combined with the producers of Brazilian Cachaça have been actively petitioning the U.S. government for years to recognize Cachaça as separate from Rum in the United States. The recent petition by the Brazilian government has created significant progress in the TTB, as well as presentation, discussions and efforts directly from IBRAC, the organization representing Brazilian Cachaça producers (the Institute for Brazilian Cachaça).
In the United States we have created an Organization called C.R.N.V.L whose mission is to gain more supporters for the ‘Legalize Cachaça’ movement and to educate the public on what Cachaça is and why we believe that Cachaça does deserve its own category, much like Mexicans did when Tequila used to be called Mexican Whiskey.
